Nairobi, 03/06/2026 – The Italian National School of Administration (SNA) and the Kenya School of Government (KSG) today officially opened the first learning sessions held in Kenya under the initiative “Strengthening the capacities, skills and knowledge of senior public officials in 4 pilot countries in Africa”, in the presence of Vincenzo Del Monaco, Ambassador of Italy to Kenya, and Fabio Minniti, Head of the Nairobi Office of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), hosted by Prof. Nura Mohamed, KSG Director General. The training aims to reinforce governance and democratic institutions through the realization of courses targeting both senior public officials and trainers.

The project is financed by the Italian Cooperation and brings together four pilot countries – Kenya, Ethiopia, Tunisia and Ivory Coast –, supporting the broader objective of promoting effective and transparent public administration across the continent. The Nairobi learning sessions will focus on three priority thematic areas, identified jointly with Kenyan institutions: Public Procurement Capacity Building; Managing Public Debt and Innovative Financing; and Digital Transformation of Public Administration, including Cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence. Through a blended learning approach combining online and in-person sessions, the programme aims to equip participants with practical tools and technical expertise to respond to increasingly complex governance challenges and to strengthen the delivery of public services. In Kenya, around 100 participants are expected to benefit from this first training sessions, which will conclude with a study visit to Italy.

“This initiative, part of Italy’s Mattei Plan for Africa, seeks to reinforce long-term cooperation between the Italian National School of Administration and Kenyan School of Government, encouraging sharing of best practices between African and Italian public administrations”, said Vincenzo Del Monaco, Ambassador of Italy to Kenya. “By investing in public sector leadership, we are supporting the foundations for effective, transparent and people-centred governance”.

“Beyond strengthening the capacities of individual officials, the initiative values the exchange of experiences, while placing capacity building, knowledge sharing, and institutional strengthening at the heart of sustainable development” said Fabio Minniti, head of AICS Nairobi.

KSG Director General, Prof. Nura Mohamed, emphasized the value of collaboration in strengthening public institutions through capacity development, observing that “Alliances of this nature create opportunities for innovation, and sharing best practices in governance”.
