In implementing initiatives funded by the Italian Cooperation, the AICS office in Nairobi works closely with a diverse network of institutional partners, local, italian and international, and civil society partners in the four countries of its jurisdiction: Kenya, Somalia, Tanzania, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The local institutions and ministries involved in the project initiatives are privileged interlocutors, with whom ongoing dialogue is maintained, including through participation in numerous sectoral and thematic discussions. A key role is played by Italian Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), active in all four countries, with projects funded by the Italian Cooperation through various channels (including the AICS Rome CSO Call – so-called Bando Promossi; the Global Fund, the global fund dedicated to fighting and combating AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria; and calls launched and managed by AICS offices and entrusted to CSOs for implementation – the so-called Progetti Affidati). Over 45 Italian CSOs operate in Kenya, coordinated through the COIKE (Coordinamento delle ONG Italiane in Kenya), which are organized into thematic clusters. In Tanzania, Somalia, and the DRC, CSOs are leading initiatives ranging from health to agriculture, from child protection to vocational training. Collaborations with international organizations and United Nations agencies, including FAO, UN Women, UN-Habitat, WHO, UNDRR, UNIDO, and CIHEAM Bari, are also particularly significant. In Somalia in particular—where the security environment severely limits direct operations—UN agencies are key players in ensuring the implementation of activities, thanks to their widespread presence and consolidated multilateral mechanisms. The partnership network is completed by Italian universities and research institutions—including the Catholic University of Milan, the University of Pavia, the University of Palermo, ISTAT, and Roma Tre University—as well as the private sector, involved through dedicated tools such as the Bando Profit.
