The “P” of “Peace” represents the commitment to building more just, inclusive, and peaceful societies. It means protecting the most vulnerable, combating all forms of discrimination (based on age, gender, or race), and tackling organized crime, corruption, and violence.
In line with Sustainable Development Goal 16 of the United Nations 2030 Agenda, the Agency works to prevent conflicts, promote reconciliation, and support strong and transparent democratic institutions. This commitment is particularly important in countries such as Somalia, where political fragility and a protracted crisis make access to basic services, as well as social and economic development, extremely challenging.
In Somalia, Italian Cooperation is engaged through the program “Towards Peace and Prosperity in Somalia”, which has provided €3,820,000 directly to the Office of the Prime Minister. We also work with local partners such as De Martino Hospital and the Somali National University, contributing to the development of new skills and to the strengthening of the health and higher education systems.
