Kenya: Italy supports new program to train future professionals in cultural tourism
Nairobi, 27/08/2025 – Today marked the official launch of the initiative “Professional and Scientific Training for the Development of Cultural Tourism”, funded by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) through the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), and implemented by the National Museums of Kenya (NMK).
Italy Launches Programme to Train Somali Public Officials in the Health and Justice Sectors
The project aims to strengthen the competencies of Somali civil servants through the establishment of an Executive Master in Public Administration Management, offering two curricula focused on the strategic sectors of health and justice. The programme will train 140 public officials and 10–15 university lecturers, ensuring the sustainability of the training process.

Kenya, Aics and local authorities activate a revolving fund scheme for boats management
On one hand, this action intends to limit the dependence of small-scale fishermen on intermediaries to whom Kenyan fishermen often have to turn to for the rental of boats upon payment of high costs, and on the other hand, to bridge one of the main gaps along the small-scale fishery value chain, which is the scarcity of boats and equipment.
Kenya, Italy at the forefront of the environmental sector: the ‘Waste Wise’ initiative is underway with UN HABITAT and the Kenyan government
The project aims to start a sustainable waste management system in order to improve the social, health and economic conditions of the inhabitants of Korogocho, one of the largest informal settlements in the Kenyan capital. In recent years, the same area has benefited from redevelopment interventions by the Italian Cooperation as part of the Italian-Kenyan debt conversion programme, for a total value of approximately 46 million euros.

The initiative, that will be realized in the counties of Nairobi, Kisumu, Kilifi, Isiolo, Bungoma and Vihiga. Education, health and infrastructure for the coast of Kenya: phase II of MISHDP kicks off
The first phase of MISHDP was financed by the Italian Cooperation and implemented by the CDA: it ended in 2012 and was focused on the development of Malindi and Magarini. Kenya – Italy and UN WOMEN renew their commitment to fight gender-based violence in Kenya
“Let it not happen again: Enhancing Prevention and Response to Violence Against Women in Elections” is financed by the Government of Italy and represents the third phase of the "Let It Not Happen Again" initiative. The first two phases were focused on improving the access to justice for victims of GBV and in particular during electoral periods, while strengthening the institutional mechanisms for prevention and response. Concurrently, the initiative has intervened to strengthen civil society organizations engaged in human rights defense.
Kenya – Signed the agreements for the implementation of a 4.6-million euros integrated social and health program in Malindi
The initiative follows a first phase of an integrated socio-health development programme funded by Italy through a 2.6-million-euro grant, and implemented by the Coastal Development Authority of Kenya (CDA) between 2006 and 2012.

Kenya – Strengthening the rapid alert system and environmental risk management in Africa: an Italian-led and financed program in collaboration with international partners
The programme is coordinated by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) in collaboration with the African Union (AU), and is funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation. Through this programme will be established a system monitoring and predicting the evolution of different hazards in the region denominated on an area of 5.2 million square km which includes eight countries of the Great Horn of Africa Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan and Uganda
Uganda – Signed the agreement for the Karamoja Infrastructure Development Project (KIDP II)
Through the KIDP II, with a soft-loan of ten million euros from the Italian government and a 2 million euros contribution from the Ugandan government, the Government, with the technical support of the AICS, will be able to build and equip new hospitals, as well as to expand and modernize the departments of existing structures, and train medical staff.
The Democratic Republic of the Congo – Delivered medical equipment to improve the treatment of fistula in women victims of SGBV
The delivery was part of the the 2019 Italian contribution to the joint UNDP, UNFPA, OHCHR project “Justice – Autonomy and Dignity of women and girls in the Congo” (2018 – 2023). The delivered items included surgical instruments and equipment to hospitals to improve interventions for the treatment of obstetric fistula, and to guarantee better maternal and child support to women victims of sexual and gender-based violence (SBGV)
Kenya – Community awareness initiative in collaboration with Italian CSOs and the Ministry of Health
The activities will run over several days, and will include the distribution of 1,000 prevention kits, basic food support and information brochures. Furthermore, will be held a community awareness-raising in collaboration with 12 health centers and with the support of 100 community Community Health Volunteers (CHV) in 4 different Sub-Counties (Langata, Kasarani, Embakasi West, Ruaraka)

Health at school, effective interventions to improve learning environments and a partnership that works
The project, launched in 2015 and aimed at supporting Kenya Comprehensive School Health Policy implementation, has seen interventions in the educational, agricultural and health fields through activities to raise awareness on issues linkled to health, nutrition, hygiene, safety and environment. Additionally, activities included the construction of kitchens and toilets and the provision of water tanks and pumps in five schools in the County.

The incubator, co-funded by the Agency and implemented by the Università cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan and by the E4Impact - Nairobi Foundation is a business incubator and accelerator aimed at promoting entrepreneurship in Kenya, thus creating employment opportunities for young people and to foistering the internationalization of new businesses
“Kilimo Ni Swag”, agriculture is cool and can offer opportunities for the youngest
The project aims to address the root causes of the emigration to Nairobi of young people coming from Kiambu County, a peri-urban area with a vibrant agricultural sector. Through support activities for entrepreneurship and development of value chains in agriculture, the project will contribute to job creation and will promote supply chain innovation, involving about 4.000 people.
