On 15th April 2020 a community awareness and prevention initiative on COVID-19 has started in some informal settlements in Nairobi. That has been possible within the AICS-funded projects “No One Out! Empowerment per l’inclusione giovanile negli slum di Nairobi” (AID 10919) – implemented by Servizio Volontario Internazionale/SVI with several partners and “YOU’LL NEVER WALK ALONE Programma di riabilitazione su base comunitaria per bambini con disabilità negli slum di Nairobi” (AID 011888) – implemented by L’Africa Chiama/CA in partnership with Medicus Mundi Italia/MMI, and Movimento Lotta alla Fame nel Mondo/MLFM.
The activities will run over several days, and will include the distribution of 1,000 prevention kits, basic food support and information brochures. Furthermore, will be held a community awareness-raising in collaboration with 12 health centers and with the support of 100 community Community Health Volunteers (CHV) in 4 different Sub-Counties (Langata, Kasarani, Embakasi West, Ruaraka). During the awareness-raising sessions held by the government trained CHVs food will be distributed to 100 families with disabled children, in collaboration with 20 mentor mothers. These mothers will also provide psychosocial support to families. Thanks to the support of various public and private stakeholders will be also distributed 20,000 information brochures prepared by the Ministry of Health in English and Swahili .
